Nitric Oxide
Chemical Formula: NO
Typical Detection Wavelength: 5.33µm
Filter Type: Narrow Bandpass (NBP)
Description: Nitric Oxide is present in the human body and can help the cardiovascular system to widen blood vessels, meaning it can be used to help control a range of health conditions. Outside of the human body, the gas can collect in combustion systems before reaching potentially dangerous levels, so being able to detect the presence of Nitric Oxide in the atmosphere, and safely controlling its accumulation levels, is very important.
An infrared optical filter can be successfully used for the early detection and warning of the presence of Nitric Oxide in the atmosphere, as the NO gas absorbs IR radiation at a specific wavelength with typical absorption around 5.33µm.
Example Transmission Curve:
Centre Wavelength: 5.33µm ± 0.5%
Half Bandwidth: 250nm ± 50nm
Transmission Peak: >70%
Umicore has significant experience in producing IR Filters to the highest standards for the early detection of Nitric Oxide and many other gasses.
