Carbon Disulfide
Chemical Formula: CS2
Typical Detection Wavelength: 6.5µm
Filter Type: Narrow Bandpass (NBP)
Description: Carbon Disulfide has a range of practical uses but is not one of the more commonly used gasses in industry. However, it is a gas that is a known poison to humans and can elicit a range of serious symptoms that can affect the respiratory and/or cardiovascular systems that can potentially lead to death.
An infrared optical filter can be successfully used for the early detection and warning of the presence of Carbon Disulfide in the atmosphere, as the CS2 gas absorbs IR radiation at a specific wavelength with typical absorption around 6.5µm.
Example Transmission Curve:
Centre Wavelength: 6.5µm ± 0.5%
Half Bandwidth: 101nm ± 15nm
Transmission Peak: >70%
Umicore has significant experience in producing IR Filters to the highest standards for the early detection of Carbon Disulfide and many other gasses.
